In her article, “How Superstore got so good,” she begins by mentioning how many returning characters are in the first episode of the new season. They were all familiar faces that the audience got to know since the first season. She was able to name every character that appeared in each scene. VanDerWerff then mentions the development of the characters from the beginning to the show to the start of the new season.
Emily Todd VanDerWerff then lists the following reasons on why she believes why Superstore is only getting better:
- Superstore’s hugely diverse cast is one of TV’s best — and it’s packed with amazingly funny people
- Superstore is one of the best shows on TV about American life in the 2010s
- The show does romance very, very well
- Superstore is never content to stay put, and keeps expanding its storytelling
- The show’s break room scenes are some of the funniest things on TV
With the list that VanDerWerff provided, she excellently explains each point in detail on why the show has gotten better throughout the years. Although I do agree that it is on the best shows on TV about American life in the 2010s, however, it wouldn’t be on my top ten list to describe American life. This show is a masterpiece and definitely has gotten better for the duration of the show. She certainly does a brilliant job of explaining why each of her reasons is valid and why the show will only get better.
